9/22/16 at 7:09 PM the sun set on the fall equinox after rising at 7:09 AM. The equinox only happens twice a year, first day of spring and first day of fall. The sun is at a unique angle in the sky as well, it shows where you truly are in relation to the equator as it's one of two days where the tilt of Earth's axis and Earth's orbit align in such a way that the sun is overhead on the equator and the line between day and night called the "solar terminator" (what a cool sounding name) is perpindicular to the equator itself. On this day, everywhere on Earth experiences a 12-hour day, from the equator to the poles. I live in the northern hemisphere so it's the first day of fall for me, but it's spring in the southern hemisphere.
