In this spot a young girl anticipates her first kiss from her beau. That evening, he takes her to McDs drive thru for a romantic meal.
In hopes of that kiss, the girl asks for no onions on both of their quarter pounders. The boy seems to get it and blushes and also noticed the bright red display at the drive thru that lets you confirm your order.
McDonalds would like you to know that when your order is taken you get what you want and not what you don't because you can see your order on the screen (at participating locations). This was unusual at the time, but is common at drive thrus now.
The girl asks for "no onions", but when the boy relays it, he asks "no ungyuns". The producers of the spot presumably heard this and thought it was endearing or something. But for some reason it drives me crazy. I guess that's just a foible of mine.
This spot aired on CBS during the reunion show after the final episode of Survivor: Borneo (season 1) on August 23, 2000.
