This is the third and last weekly event for Mario Day (March 10). No update to add content, though there was a slip-up confirming Bob-omb Blast will be added. By entering code “3103” between March 18 and 24, you can participate in Knockout Tours. Everyone begins with a rating of 3000, though it does not appear to be as popular as the previous week’s Coin Runners matches—a bit unusual, as I had the impression Knockout Tours are considered one of the best things about Mario Kart World, and we get full or near-full rooms all the time, while the game’s Battle Mode is largely seen as lackluster.
This video will cover four Knockout Tours I played under the event, as well as one more Coin Runners match I didn’t choose for the previous video.
00:00 - Entering Event 3103
00:12 - Rally #1
Cherry Rally: Peach Beach, Dino Dino Jungle, Koopa Troopa Beach, DK Spaceport, Whistlestop Summit, Desert Hills
Character: Birdo (Vacation)
Here is the Cherry Rally again, only this time, we had a lot of people in the midst of climbing the rankings. You can see where they stand in that two of the AI racers made it past the last checkpoint this time, the one in Desert Hills. I almost didn’t make it past the Dino Dino Jungle checkpoint though, due to the savage attacks from the halfway point of that stretch onwards.
Zykrom also led the way through much of the first half of this entire rally before a Spiny Shell attack eliminated them at the DK Spaceport checkpoint.
09:15 - Rally #2
Spiny Rally: Boo Cinema, Starview Peak, DK Pass, Salty Salty Speedway, Peach Beach, Wario Shipyard
Character: Rosalina (Aurora)
There goes Rosalina, dashing through her home course. This time, there were a few people who had been playing a lot more than me, including someone whose rating is higher than my normal Knockout Tour rating, BEASTLEYMK. I made it to the last checkpoint in Wario Shipyard, but so did they. I was wondering why one of the snowmen summoned by Kamek suddenly disappeared, only to see an Ice Bor projectile right behind it. There were also at least 4 Marios in this race, all of them human players and all of them making it past at least the Salty Salty Speedway checkpoint.
18:07 - Rally #3
Moon Rally: Bowser’s Castle, Toad’s Factory, Moo Moo Meadows, Dandelion Depths, Cheep Cheep Falls, Faraway Oasis
Character: Dolphin
Kamek doing the Dolphin transformation in that first rally made me decide to use Dolphin for an entire rally, and that would be this one. There were at last 4 players with a rating of 3000, meaning I have no idea how good they’d actually be. One of them, joejoe1784, fell just short of a full run, stopped at the Faraway Oasis checkpoint.
27:41 - Rally #4
Cloud Rally: Airship Fortress, Shy Guy Bazaar, Mario Bros. Circuit, Crown City, Faraway Oasis, Great ? Block Ruins
Character: Conkdor
This one has only 5 other human players, but except for the guest, who doesn’t have a rating, they are all far higher than mine. I, too, would have a deceptively low rating, and yes, I did make it to the end of this one despite much opposition. and the folks in the lead being incredibly far away ever since at least the Mario Bros. Circuit checkpoint. For a Knockout Tour with so few human players, this was a rough and tense one to play!
Can you take those offroad paths leading up to the Mario Bros. Circuit checkpoint without Mushrooms and pull ahead? Or did they all stock up on boosting/offroad items ahead of time? I used up my Triple Mushrooms to make it through the Shy Guy Bazaar checkpoint.
36:54 - Battle #1
Coin Runners
Mario Bros. Circuit
Character: Toad (Conductor)
I started in a pretty remote corner of the course, in a place where people don’t really bother to explore outside of Free Roam, allowing me to grab a lot of Coins mostly undisturbed. In addition, with so few participants (8 in this one), this was the first time I was able to amass more than 30 Coins, maxing out the display on the bottom left. I didn’t know if a fourth stack of Coins would appear past 30.
