One thing that I saw regarding the Indianapolis Regional Championships is that Wolfe Glick was vouching for Mega Steelix, having gone 8 wins, 0 losses on the first day and placing 2nd overall. THough he was completely shut down in the finals (his opponent may as well be a mind reader), I wonder if this means we’ll be seeing Mega Steelix in the future. I’ve seen Mega Steelix turn up a few times playing Champions, and they vary a lot over how well they perform, but someone like Glick is a trendsetter, known for bringing INcineroar to the top of the charts.
Of course, these are single battles in this video, so it wouldn’t apply.

The battle here was decided right on Team Preview (which is more pronounced in single battles than double battles), but instead of who turned up first, it was the last Pokémon from each side.
Of course, Head Smash also missed, but that is part of the risk of running it. It doesn’t feel any less frustrating when it happens, but it is also something you’d have to know is coming sooner or later.

Opponent’s Pokémon: Mimikyu, Arcanine (Hisuian), Aegislash
Samantha (Toucannon) being Normal-type came in handy when up against that Mimikyu, who used the free turn for Disguise to power up with Bulk Up. It meant their only attacking option was Play Rough, which is a contact move and vulnerable to a Burn condition from Beak Blast.
Also, it looks like Sucker Punch missed again…my opponent’s Aegislash must have had a Bright Powder. They were also able to use King’s Shield twice in a row, which is also annoying (and something few people really do). Of course, the opponent was likely equally annoyed at the Quick Claw activating. Me, I’d rather have a different hold item because of Quick Claw’s unreliability and unpredictability; it will change to something else afterwards.
Thanks to the Performance Bonus, I was able to go up two ranks within Great Ball Tier from this match.

Well, we eventually wound up with Toucannon versus Empoleon, a tropical bird versus a polar-region bird.
Also, I try to Mega Evolve Meowstic opportunistically, to get good, well-suited Abilities via Trace. It isn’t always possible, and sometimes the best course of action is to accept an Ability that doesn’t confer an advantage of any sort, like Huge Power, but Competitive is one of the better ones, and is, in a sense, the female Meowstic getting that Ability back.
Not sure where Empoleon’s nickname of “Aqua Armor” is from, unless it is original and not muchmore than it being a Water/Steel type.

People generally prefer Triple Axel over physical Ice-type moves when it’s available. I get the idea: because it’s a multi-hit move, it can mess with Focus Sash, Dragonite’s Multiscale, Mimikyu’s Disguise, and Sturdy. However, it’s a 90% accuracy move, and I don’t like having to roll the dice three times to get its full effect. Stuff like this, where it hits short of a knockout, is why I have second thoughts about Triple Axel.
It’s still a roughly 73% chance of a full three hits for a full 120 power attack, but it feels to me like picking Thunder over Thunderbolt. Hence, in the near future, you’ll see me experimenting with Triple Axel on Paolo on the Aurorus Team, but I have my doubts.
(For similar reasons, I don’t like the 80% accuracy on Head Smash or even the 95% accuracy on High Horsepower, let alone what Bright Powder turns every 100% accuracy move into.)
