This video begins my coverage of Season M-5, the last one of Regulation M-B. Like the previous season, I’ll be using the Overqwil Team for double battles and th Beartic Team for single battles, though I may swap over to the Aurorus Team and Forretress Team every now and then if I feel like it. However, while they both made it into Master Ball Tier, I want to see if they can do so a second time. I’m not there yet as of when I type this description, but I’ll try to get there. I can take a slower pace though, as this season is 5 weeks instead of the 3-4 weeks of the rest of Regulation M-B, presumably so it would be the season when the World Championships begin.

Opponent’s Pokémon: Archaludon, Basculegion (Male), Staraptor, Pelipper
This was a long, drawn-out battle, as Umbreon and Sableye are both very defensively oriented (in I was not expecting to see Basculegion right at the start. Last Respects gains power based on how many Pokémon on your side have fainted, and it negins at 50 power—even with Adaptability, that’s not knocking out much. But it makes more sense that the plan was to open with Flip Turn. Being up against a team comprised solely of Pokémon not used often in Ranked, they probably wanted to scout out what I would do on my first turn so they could plan something. (You never know what kind of opponents will turn up in Poké Ball Rank 4, as everyone gets put back there at the beginning of a season.)
Or at least, that’s what I think it was going to do, considering Pelipper turned up later. Vincenzo (Sceptile), when Mega Evolved, is able to outrun Basculegion even with a Choice Scarf and can one-hit KO them, so a plan like this just kind of falls apart.

Opponent’s Pokémon: Kingambit, Incineroar, Dragonite, Floette (Eternal Flower)
Something happened to our Internet connection in this battle. Somehow, while it became unstable, it remained stable enough to at least complete this match. Our local Internet cabling infrastructure doesn’t handle high heat very well, and it being August in the Northern Hemisphere, high heat is exact what you’d expect to encounter.
This is also, I think, the first match in which Eternal Flower Floette is seen Mega Evolving and using Light of Ruin. This has been used at Regional Championships to knock out even Pokémon that resist Fairy, let alone take neutral damage from it. Just as it was able to take out Poindexter (Overqwil) in one hit, some other common targets include Archaludon, Basculegion, Dragonite through Multiscale, and Incineroar. Of course, Floette then has to take a large amount of HP in recoil damage, but one can see why AZ used this move only as a last resort and how it caused much destruction, and its use at the beginning of Legends: Z-A scared off some trainers even when it missed.

“Fire-Type Gym Leader” is a fitting title, as my opponent used only Fire-types in this team. Needs more red on the opponent’s player character though. I think also that Vincenzo (Sceptile) turned out to be a bigger threat than they anticipated.
We could also use more Gym Leader themes. Maybe the next regulation, which will almost certainly come with new content, will provide that.

Opponent’s Pokémon: Incineroar, Gengar, Mudsdale, Torkoal
This is a weird Gengar, able to comfortably withstand Throat Chop from Poindexter (Overqwil), yet moves slower than Kane (Mr. Rime), who isn’t exactly a speed demon (while Gengar, in a sense, literally is).
In addition to the other three Pokémon being naturally slower and more defensively oriented, with Incineroar getting assistance from Intimidate, this is why this battle went on for longer than the others by a long shot. Interestingly, this Mudsdale did not have Stamina—he may have Inner Focus, and considering his use of Heavy Slam and holding a Life Orb, he may be built pretty similarly to my own Mudsdale, Mac, on the Aurorus Team.
