This is the first event that you can’t just experience all in one go, because for this one, they make it slightly different for each 24-hour period. It was not easy, but I managed to catch all four phases of this event (you have no obligation to do that to get all the rewards), anf this video covers races done over all four of those periods.
The gimmick for this one is that only a narrow selection of machines are available for Top Ride races:
April 29: Chariot and Battle Chariot
April 30: Formula Star, Rocket Star, and Turbo Star
May 1: Tank Star and Bull Tank
May 2: Wheelie Bike, Rex Wheelie, and Wheelie Scooter
I made an attempt to show one race with each of these machines, as I don’t specialize in anything in particular. I am pretty bad with some of them though. But it doesn’t mean I should stay away from them.
00:28 - Race #1
Top Ride
Course: Nova
Character: Daroach
Machine: Battle Chariot
April 29
I oversteered in the first lap in the final stretch and missed the boost pad. I remembered that on the second and final lap and adjusted my angle and hit the boost pad for better results. Also, following people with their Star Slides is tough because they get the bonuses on the track ahead of you, and you get nothing to attack them with.
01:42 - Match #2
Top Ride
Course: Mountain
Character: Lololo & Lalala
Machine: Chariot
April 29
I’m not that great with the Mountain course, as I get bumped around at the turns before the bottom beach area, and I can never seem to nab the onigiri by the tea house. This time, something happened with some of the other racers, and I was able to take 2nd place, which is good enough for me! Looks like everyone here placed 1st in at least one race prior in their own sessions.
02:55 - Match #3
Top Ride
Course: Cave
Character: Taranza
Machine: Battle Chariot
April 29
Taranza is in good spirits again, taking life pretty well after the corruption and subsequent death of his older sister Sectonia. In fact, there were multiples of him on the Battle Chariot in this race! ALso, I kept this one despite placing 4th because of the incredibly close finish of this race, with only 0.1 seconds separating first and last place.
04:19 - Match #4
Top Ride
Course: Crystal
Character: Rick
Machine: Rocket Star
April 30
I don’t know how useful the Rocket Star is in Top Ride, but its nature of slowing down and speeding up wildly probably lends itself to equally wild position swings….or maybe it tends to trail behind as no one else really slows down so much in turning if they’re not using the Swerve Star. I was doing well though, until a disastrous third lap put me in last place. I did get a Jet Copy Ability though, that let me zoom back up to the pack.
05:44 - Match #5
Top Ride
Course: Nova
Character: Cappy
Machine: Formula Star
April 30
Ordinarily, I would say the Formula Star, with its incredible top speed but horrible handling, is a poor choice for most Top Ride courses, but Nova is made up mostly of straightaways, so it winds up working for this one. How were they able to catch up on the last part of the race though?
06:53 - Match #6
Top Ride
Course: Air
Character: Chef Kawasaki
Machine: Turbo Star
April 30
When a race is super close between two or more players, it really helps to get Copy Abilities like Fighter and Sword, as they automatically attack and slow down anyone close to you. I was also finally able to dodge the whirlwind all four laps while some of them kept getting caught in them, allowing me to gain on them or even overtake them.
08:30 - Match #7
Top Ride
Course: Flow
Character: Bandana Waddle Dee
Machine: Bull Tank
May 1
Seriously, Sleep was something I did NOT want to get on the home stretch…
09:58 - Match #8
Top Ride
Course: Flower
Character: Magolor
Machine: Tank Star
May 1
This was also a photo finish, though it looked like I was ahead going across the finish line, and I even had the crown over my player name, but the official result was that I placed 2nd. Was this lag?
11:08 - Race #9
Top Ride
Course: Mountain
Character: Gooey
Machine: Rex Wheelie
May 2
Here’s another race on Mountain. The track selections are mroe limited than Air Ride, so there would be repeats, like with Nova earlier. I was able to smoothly handle the bottom beach portion on the first lap, but the second lap’s performance there was bumpier. The entire final lap was close all the way through, with less than a second between all of us at all times.
12:24 - Race #10
Top Ride
Course: Air
Character: Scarfy
Machine: Wheelie Bike
This time, everyone was using the Wheelie Bike, though characters do have different stats between them, which are buffed and nerfed with updates. I don’t know how Scarfy compares to Rick, Marx, and Susie though.
13:59 - Race #11
Top Ride
Course: Cyber
Character: Dedede Noir
Machine: Wheelie Scooter
I think this makes every Top Ride course at least one except Steam, which never turned up the whole time I was playing this event…
