A man and his girlfriend rescue and adopt his brother's daughters, who have lived in the jungle for years. But the couple soon find that a shadowy feminine figure has latched on their new family.
The studio worked on around 150 to 200 shots for the film. A big part of their work focused on bringing the ghost “Mama” to life — creating her creepy movements, distorted body shapes, and realistic, floating hair. These effects were achieved through a mix of live-action footage, digital doubles, motion capture, and advanced simulation work.
MR. X also built several CG environments and extended real sets to make the ghost’s presence feel natural in every frame. The lighting and atmosphere were carefully matched to the live-action plates, giving the supernatural scenes a grounded and cinematic look.
The breakdown showcases before-and-after shots, animation passes, lighting setups, and final composites — showing just how much invisible work goes into making a horror film like Mama feel real.
