The Mafia series holds a special place in my heart as I played the very first game when I was little after it got recommended to me by a good friend. The game's controls and gameplay were very clunky, but the narrative and atmosphere were amazing. Mafia 2 then improved on all its aspects and blew me away when I first played it. I heard a lot of negative things about Mafia 3, so I never played that, but now the circle is complete and we are back at the start with Mafia The Old Country which serves as a prequel to the entire series.
We play as Enzo who works at a sulfur mine in Sicily and gets involved in two rival families fighting for control. The game definitely starts out very slow and even slower than the other titles in the series, but the atmosphere and characters are once again on point. There is so much detail and the world feels truly alive. Its a great game for those who are into story and traditional singleplayer games. Probably my least favorite aspect was how much focus there was on stealth gameplay which was not something I particularly enjoyed. But all in all it was a great time and I cannot wait to continue the saga by now playing and archiving Mafia Definitive Edition next.
