The Sangre de Cristo Range is located about 20 miles northeast of Alamosa, Colorado. Known for its soaring 14,000-foot peaks, dramatic prominence, and remoteness, this range is a playground for those seeking both challenge and beauty.
In this video, we hike the Lake Como approach (also known as the Blanca Peak Jeep Road), considered one of the ten most treacherous jeep routes in the world. This route proved more time-consuming than expected, so we settled for a breathtaking viewpoint above Crater Lake at roughly 13,000 feet, just below Blanca Peak.
Here, the Rocky Mountains reveal some of their most dramatic scenery, and standing in quiet solitude amid such grandeur is an experience that stays with you long after the trail ends.
