On a cool spring day, the wind-swept rocky ridges high above Box Canyon are great objectives. The approach we took followed an old forest road overgrown with dense brush in places. Reaching the rocky ridgeline requires bush whacking and scrambling, with fallen logs slick with morning frost that can be challenging to traverse. Patches of snow from yesterday's storm clung stubbornly to north-facing slopes and shadowed gullies. Each step upward blends effort with exhilaration, rewarded by glimpses of cascading streams and jagged peaks rising in the distance. At the ridgeline, the forest opens dramatically to sweeping panoramas: deep valleys below, sparkling lakes, and towering snow-capped summits—an unforgettable landscape that captures the raw beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
