Mount Rudderham is a beautiful yet seldom-visited peak in the central Cascade Mountains. The climb requires backcountry and route-finding skills, as there’s no trail, and you must navigate your way between bands of cliffs. The road following Money Creek frequently becomes snowbound and impassable in winter, long before reaching Lake Elizabeth. The ascent from the lake features steep forested and open talus sections that become particularly sketchy in icy conditions. On such a cold winter's day, you may encounter enormous icicles hanging from the cliffs, adding to the charm. Crampons and ice axes are essential for safely navigating the icy slopes. Despite the effort and the cold January weather, the sunny and serene day made the journey worthwhile. Once at the summit, we were rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view to enjoy in complete solitude. For peaceful mountain splendor, Mount Rudderham is truly a hidden gem.
