The Kachess Beacon was part of a system installed in the 1930s to guide planes through Snoqualmie Pass. By the late 1940s, aircraft radios and instrumentation had improved to the point that the beacons became obsolete. Today, the Kachess Beacon tower still remains, though its beacon is gone.
In this video, we take trail 1315 to a small talus field just below the ridgeline and scramble along the ridge to the tower. Several viewpoints along the way offer excellent views of Mt. Rainier, Lake Kachess, and Lake Easton.
Alternatively, you can stay on well-maintained trails to reach the tower by continuing on trail 1315 until it intersects with trail 1315.3 along Silver Creek. However, when the snow gets deep, the route can be challenging to follow.
Overall, this is a fantastic hike to enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
