The Boulder River hike is a great place for a casual stroll or a moderate hike into the pristine Pacific Northwest backcountry. The trail ventures into its namesake wilderness, winding through a beautiful old-growth canopy flanked by a thundering river below.
The first part of the hike follows a former roadbed, with the unassuming river far below. Shortly after leaving the roadbed, a well-maintained trail leads to a stunning set of falls cascading down to the Boulder River, surrounded by car- and house-sized boulders. From there, the trail begins to climb, becoming muddy in places and featuring a few creek crossings. Eventually, it levels off at a camping spot next to the river.
Here, the current trail ends. However, an overgrown trail from a bygone era once crossed the river and continued all the way to Tupso Pass and on to the Three Fingers Summit.
This destination is a fantastic place to enjoy and explore the diverse hiking opportunities within the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
