Kevin Costner sets record straight on Yellowstone fiasco..

Following his abrupt departure from Yellowstone last year with two seasons remaining, Kevin Costner has disclosed the precise reasons for his decision.

The popular television program, which centered on the conflicting family of Montana landowner John Dutton (portrayed by Costner), was abruptly canceled in May by its creator, Taylor Sheridan, much earlier than anticipated.

The unexpected revelation came after rumors circulated that Sheridan and Costner had a falling out over schedule issues, with the producer openly expressing his disappointment at Costner's choice to leave the show.

While promoting his new Western film Horizon: An American Saga at the Cannes Film Festival, Costner spoke with Deadline and said the Yellowstone team had not been providing the "truth" behind his choice to quit the show.

It was previously thought that Costner's scheduling issues were related to the 35-year-long filming of Horizon, which will debut at Cannes as a "two-part event" before being released in two volumes on June 28 and August 16.

The 69-year-old actor has now refuted reports that Horizon was the reason behind Yellowstone's demise, claiming that his movie's filming was planned during his days off from the series. He remarked, "I fit it into the gaps." They simply continued to shift their spacing.

The John Dutton actor claimed that while the production crew was "doing a tap dance," he gave Yellowstone "first priority." According to him, Horizon was never meant to "compete" with the show.

Yellowstone had a contract with Costner to film the fifth, sixth, and seventh seasons. "They made another contract in February, after two or three months of negotiation," he asserted. "They wanted to redo that one, and maybe we'll do six instead of seasons six and seven," the statement reads.

When rumors surfaced that he was never available to film the show, the actor—who bore the majority of the blame for Yellowstone's demise—asked why the production team "didn't stick up" for him. He claimed, "They chose the days and they made the contract."

According to Costner, he even skipped a "whole month" of filming his movie to film Yellowstone's five B seasons. However, there was "no script" and "things imploded" when he got there.

"It was difficult for me because I left right when they wanted to," he stated. "I have never skipped a workday." Never have I gone before completing my end of the deal."

The actor says that after Yellowstone's production ended because there weren't enough scripts, he didn't work for 14 months. The actor started working on Horizon to "fill the gaps" in his schedule, and he frequently compromised it when the show needed him to in order to "protect" himself.

Costner expressed unexpected aspirations to return to the show despite the backlash. He declared, "I'm very open to coming back." "I got hammered by these men for not standing up for me and letting ridiculous rumors circulate. It does not make me happy. However, I will be there as well if the writing is.

In November of last year, during his divorce trial, Costner talked about his abrupt departure from Yellowstone.

According to reports, the actor claimed that the circumstances were "complicated" and that he "did negotiate" a return for more seasons.

Reporters who attended the trial reported that Costner stated: "Creative issues were present." I attempted to free the stuck log. They turned to leave. It is thought that he stated he would "probably go to court" in relation to the issue.

"My last conversation with Kevin was that he wanted to direct this passion project," Sheridan has previously stated. When he could finish with Yellowstone was the point of contention between him and the network. We did as I suggested, "We can definitely work a schedule toward [his preferred exit date]."

The Independent has reached out to Sheridan's agents for a response.
