I brought the Silky KATANABOY 650 and BIGBOY 2000 to help me clear blowdown on the portage trails. I planned to clear two trails on this trip, and Day 1 shows what I found on Day 1. First time using the Katanaboy. AWESOME! (of course!). I had some struggles with sawing logs from underneath, but I am sure that with practice I will figure out that technique. I finished the underneath cuts with the Bigboy no problem, which I show. Obviously the Katanaboy is rather heavy to take for the average solo canoe trip. But this is no manicured park. Where I was travelling on Crown (public) land, true backcountry where no government is clearing the blowdown on the portage trails, and so its up to us travelers to clear trail and maintain these historic and culturally important canoe routes. Canoe portage trails are what makes lake to lake canoe routes possible in this thick bush and rugged terrain.
