JVC RX-950V from 1987. 120WPC powerhouse in a small form factor.
LCD backlit and and has all the bells and whistles you would want. Has a great spectrum analyzer with lots of adjustments and presets. A nice touch as it tells you the signal strength of your FM channel in decibels, I mean, the average person wouldn’t care but it’s nice to know the number. It’s these types of details which stand out from the rest of the other receivers from the same era.
I have a second similar model of this - it is a little bit different (RX-9V) but I figured I would perform an idle current adjustment on both tonight. Approximately 1 year ago I started doing this to all of my receivers that had adjustments with service manuals. Adjusting bias or idle current will put the unit back into more of a factory spec condition, it’s better for the output transistors and the speakers.
Here’s a quick video of the procedure. I followed, as well as a as a high-level overview of this unit.
Our kids finished up school so now we are ready for summer, which means our house will be a lot more messy, much more laundry, much more dishes, much more food, and much more depreciation on everything!
Have a great weekend, friends!
