On August 22, 1951, Joey Maxim defended his world light heavyweight championship against “Irish” Bob Murphy at Chicago Stadium in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Maxim delivered a dominant performance, winning by unanimous decision over 15 rounds. Despite Murphy entering the fight as a heavy-punching favorite, Maxim controlled the bout with superior technique, defense, and ring generalship.
By the early rounds, Murphy’s eye was visibly swollen as Maxim consistently outboxed him and dictated the pace. Murphy’s power was neutralized throughout the fight, while Maxim maintained control over the full championship distance.
