Getting a cast is a good sign. But it's not the whole answer.
The real test is what happens after you break it.
If your curls frizz out immediately after you scrunch out the crunch, that's a sign something is off. A cast that looks great but doesn't hold is not a balanced routine.
Then there's the end-of-day test. You should be able to get through the day without touching up your hair. If that's not happening consistently, it's either your routine balance or your application.
A great gel holds up after the cast breaks. That's the bar.
