STATEMENT FROM MOUNTJOY PRISON: IRISH POLITICIANS REFUSE TO ADDRESS ENOCH BURKE’S IMPRISONMENT
Teacher Enoch Burke has now spent 486 days in prison after refusing to endorse transgender ideology in his school.
With just days to go before the Irish General Election, politicians are avoiding the public and refusing to face questions all across the country.
Real democratic process involves politicians placing themselves before the people for scrutiny and accountability. The opposite is now the case in Ireland. Party leaders are refusing to reveal where they will be canvassing. We are no longer told where they will be - we are told afterwards where they were. The party campaigns are full of staged election events, carefully orchestrated to avoid public transparency. This is not democracy.
Nowhere was this more evident than in Co. Mayo this week where a secret ‘debate’ between politicians was held without prior advertisement. Hardly any members of the public were present.
Local radio host Aidan Crowley from Castlebar chaired this ‘debate’. He subsequently addressed the controversy on his podcast (‘All Ireland Whingers’) where he claimed the event was very well attended. This is flatly contradicted by images released from the event which show less than 20 people in the audience. It was also indicated on the podcast that no national politician can campaign in Mayo due to the risk of an encounter with the Burkes. In reality, national politicians are avoiding Mayo because they cannot and will not answer questions on the shameful incarceration of Enoch Burke.
