On June 23, 2024. Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic dispute call. The complainant, (Ricky) had contacted the Sheriff’s Office stating that he just got assaulted by his brother (James) and that he wanted an ambulance. Deputies arrived and went into the house. James was sweeping up the floor in the living room because there were miscellaneous items scattered throughout the floor. Deputes told James that they would speak with him in a minute and went outside to talk with Ricky. A deputy observed that James had a laceration on his forehead, under his left eye and also on top of his head. Ricky stated that he recently got an OWI and he and his brother, James, were starting to argue about that. When the argument kept on escalating, that is when he said his brother James slapped him across the face with an open hand. After that happened, Ricky stated that he was going to defend himself and they started to get into a brawl. He said that they were both throwing punches at each other and that he couldn’t really remember what happened because it all happened so fast. He mentioned that his brother James is younger than him and that he knows how to fight pretty well. Ricky said that he got beat up pretty good but he wasn’t just going to stand there and get slapped by his brother. He also mentioned that his brother James broke his TV in the living room. Ricky said that he did not want to get his brother charged criminally and that he would be fine going back into the house. Another deputy arrived and went inside to speak with James who stated that he had no idea why they were there or what was going on. The deputy told James that they were called for a physical altercation between two people. James denied anything happening stating that he had no clue what they were talking about, he was questioned about his two bloody elbows and how that happened. He said that he had no idea that his elbows were bloody and did not know where it came from. A deputy noticed blood on a laundry basket on the floor and asked James about it. James stated he had no idea where the blood had come from and was unwilling to give any information regarding the incident. James was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct and Battery with domestic abuse and photos were taken of Ricky's injuries. Ricky was found guilty for Disorderly Conduct. He was ordered to pay a $232 fine.
