75 years ago today. The cold, heavy doors of military landing crafts opened to release their precious cargo of tens of thousands of brave, American patriots onto the shores of France. Their mission…to stop tyranny and evil and to bring about peace through freedom. This effort was not without a cost….a very high cost. The blood of more than 10,000 troops stained those sands and surf. 4,414 Americans died that day. They did not lose their lives….they GAVE their lives….for me and you…and generations of Americans they would never meet.
As President Trump remarked, “They did not know if they would survive the hour. They did not know if they would grow old. But they knew that America had to prevail. Their cause was this Nation, and generations yet unborn."
It is therefore, incumbent upon us as citizens of this great nation, to take time today to honor those that have fought to ensure that you and I can enjoy the freedoms we have. And I would echo the words of President Franklin Roosevelt…”May we have a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil.”
So join me today in honoring these that fought from this horrific beach to the gates of Berlin to bring freedom to the oppressed and peace to those that could only dream of it.
