On January 29, 2025, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 8155 SE 170th Avenue Road, in Ocklawaha, after receiving information that Denny Burns (W/M, DOB: 12/18/1974) was at the location. Burns had a warrant for Violation of Probation on Battery charges. As Deputies Welfenburg and Brickman approached the front of the residence, K-9 Corporal Christmas and his partner, K-9 King saw Burns attempting to sneak into a shed in the backyard. K-9 Corporal Christmas gave verbal commands for Burns to exit the shed and surrender, but Burns continued to flee on foot. K-9 King tracked Burns for a short distance and quickly apprehended him.
Burns was placed under arrest and advised he was in possession of marijuana. A search revealed that he had several bags of marijuana in his pockets, which weighed a total of 52 grams (a felonious amount). He was also in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Burns was medically cleared and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he is held without bond.
