Another version of a bubble cluster of 12 hemispheres from magnetic balls. The sphere used is made from 2 subunits: a double layer triangular unit made from 36 balls each, and a single layer pentagonal unit made from 31 balls each.
A pretty simple construction in principle, but fitting together the 12 hemispheres of 15 triangular and 6 pentagonal units each can be a bit tricky, and is not fully shown in the video. I built it with 4 layers of 3 bubbles, and I supported the low 2nd layer of 3 bubbles with 3 plastic Neoballs Tesseract Cassette containers as scaffolding to carefully connect all the other bubbles without collapsing the structure.
A single sphere is very easy to build however as fully shown: it requires 12 × 31 + 20 × 36 = 1092 balls. The large complete bubble cluster requires 15 triangular units and 6 pentagonal units per bubble, ie (15 × 36 + 6 × 31) × 12 = a grand total of 8712 neodymium magnetic balls.
