As requested, a quick and dirty demonstration of how to build the icosidodecahedron spheres for my Giant Gold Molecule Icosahedron shape, and make strong connections with tubes between them. I used a simple polarity reversal trick that allows 2 spheres of the same polarity to connect with tubes of opposite polarity at each end. The tubes of rings of 10 magnetic balls each must be an even number of rings long for the spheres to line up properly for the whole icosahedron.

Total exact magnet count: 12 × 12 × 46 (nickel coloured outer pieces) + 12 × 122 (2 layer golden mini cores inside the outer nickel clusters) + 12 × 46 (central golden core cluster outer pieces) + 60 (mini golden core inside the central golden core) = a grand total of 8700 5mm diameter neodymium magnetic balls.
