Have you ever watched a reality cooking show and wondered what goes on behind the scenes, how much drama is real versus staged, and what it’s like to compete in that environment?
Six months ago, I had the chance to cook as a sous chef on the Thai affiliate of Iron Chef, on the same kitchen set that I’ve seen hundreds of times on television, watching some of the best cooks in the world do battle in Kitchen Stadium.
And I had to do it with 48 hours notice, cooking a cuisine I’d never cooked before- 19th century cuisine of the Russian Empire.
On that note by the way- OTR and all associated with this show believe in the preservation of ancient recipes and the historical importance of food and culture of all people, regardless of current political realities. However we all would like to emphasize our support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
