Hunter Greenwich 52" ceiling fan in weathered brick. This is another fan that I found in the trash during Cleanup Week 2026. Probably one of the better few finds. This year was really not prime picking across the board for me, but especially in terms of ceiling fans. To be fair, I've had a couple really solid years in ceiling fans, so I was due for a softer one and I'm honestly not upset about it because I don't have space to bring in a bunch of stuff. This one was right in my parents' neighborhood so I was able to get it quickly unloaded without destroying anything or the finish too much. These types of Hunters suck to pick up because disassembling on the spot is too much time. I just dump them in the car and hope for the best. Aside from some paint spatter that was rather difficult, this one cleaned up nicely. The light side of the blades was facing down and despite being slightly faded, I would say is the better side except for one spot where the finish peeled off. The plywood underneath is kind of similar in tone so could probably get away with using them, but I knew it was there, so I went dark. Scrubbing the paint spatter off this side has them looking a little duller and there were a couple spots I really had to scrub that needed a bit of touching up, but they're presentable. This thing is like SUPER powerful. It's not even a proper Airmax one, but it's fast, has good pitch, and cranks. I'm used to Hunter of the period being generally midrange decent, but this one seems particularly off the charts in comparison. I was never much a fan of this design growing up, was honestly always one of my least favorites in the Hunter product foldout sheets I have from the late 90s, but having one now I don't mind it. Especially in a cool finish, I think that really makes a massive difference for me. If it were just brass I'd be kinda meh on it. Also a lot cooler now that they've gotten less common to find and see.
I know this is long already, but I won't miss an opportunity to rag on Hunter mounting systems! This has to be, hands down, the worst system they ever used. They're pretty much all REALLY bad, but this is horrendous. The installation part is nice, the rest of the functionality is awful. The double ball tabs lock up the ball and make it do goofy things like make the fan hang crooked; I've started breaking the second one off to alleviate that problem and let it seat more freely. Often times the second one is already bent down because it doesn't align right and the weight of the fan pushed it out of the way! Who thought that was A) necessary and B) a good idea? The socket could not have been designed any worse. And the two screws secure NOTHING, crank 'em down and the fan still wobbles because there is nothing actually holding anything in place. Plus the bracket on the ceiling has little surface area to be secure, and those thick rubber pads make it impossible to truly tighten down. Everything can be "tight" and it all still rocks back and forth. On this one, even a slight wobble and the whole thing makes deafening creaking noises. Had to balance it just to get rid of that. I've been hating this canopy on a few fans lately, but this one additionally making a racket loud enough to pierce an eardrum really sent me over the edge and I had to rant. The absolute worst.
