The Art of Nature - Germany | How to STAY HAPPY (& Healthy) IN WINTER - practical tips to avoid winter depression @theartofnaturegermany | Uploaded November 2020 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
Many of you commented lately that you have problems staying motivated and in good mental health during the cold and dark half of the year. As I also used to feel that way most time of my life, but discovered very practical solutions to maintain my happiness through winter, I really felt the need to share my tips with you here in the hope that they also help you.

Here you find my favorite VITAMIN D supplement:

Further information:
As I said, it is vegan and free from fillers and the Vitamin D is extracted from lichen, so from a natural source. I think I didn’t point out enough how important it is that there is also Vitamin K2 in your Vitamin D supplement! It not only enables the body to make use of the Vitamin D, it also helps to prevent an overdose.

If you buy any supplement watch out because of the dosage! That’s the most important thing! So, I found out that 1000 IU (= international unit) is great for adults to prevent a wintry Vitamin D deficiency – But please research it yourself and consult your doctor!

In summary it will be a combination of many things that enable you to stay happy and healthy in winter. Going outside as often as you can to calm down in the forest and connect with nature is important, also because you will get used to the cold and it will not be as hard on you. For me cold exposure is an adventure and makes me feel alive and attentive.
The opposite – getting really cozy inside the house in a warm space with a hot beverage – is also a wintry mood lifter. So, get your teacups out for my turmeric milk, that also boosts the immune system and helps the intestine. You just need to heat a plant milk like oat milk etc. on the stove, add turmeric powder, ginger bread spice, cinnamon and a teaspoon of organic honey and then you just need to enjoy.
It’s definitely important to follow an overall healthy diet, because the happiness hormones, especially serotonin, are produced in our intestine. When we eat unhealthy food like lots of sugar, animal products, wheat flower, highly processed foods and alcohol, we destroy our intestine and it will be busy repairing itself, so it shuts down the serotonin production. Whole foods and lots of veggies are foods for long term happiness.
You can use the winter to reflect, meditate, calm down and gain strength.
