Here in south Germany advent is truly a special time. Lot’s of enchanting traditions, funny activities and space for internal work and contemplation. My favorite advent craft is making advent wreaths together with my grandma.

Here you find my PATREON page, where I upload some bonus content. Check it out and join there if you want to support my craft and connect with me in a private setting. I would be incredibly thankful!

It was the first advent weekend and I stayed at my parent’s in the south German countryside. It also was quite frosty and the area around the village was covered into a tender white blanket. I also discovered some frozen puddles and found a lot of joy about them.
I went to my grandparents to prepare our advent wreaths together with my grandma. The advent wreath has a long tradition here in Germany. It is weaved with fir branches and has four candles on its top. The four candles stand for the four weeks before Christmas and are lit sequentially on Sunday mornings to celebrate the first, second, third and fourth of advent. This year my grandma taught me how to weave them. She always made the advent wreaths for our whole family and is therefore very skilled.
I decorated mine with candles I had from last year. Three of them have already been lit before and I know, that takes away the magic of lighting them for the first time on the related Sunday, but I just didn’t want to waste them. My grandma also made a wreath with blue decoration for my parents and one with red candles for her and my grandpa. Mine wasn’t weaved as perfectly as hers and had its weak spots, but for the first time it was ok.
On Sunday morning it was time to light the first candle on the advent wreath and celebrate the first of advent with a lovely family breakfast. My mum made a delicious ginger bread cake – my favorite sweet around Christmas. Tell me if you’re interested in the recipe, I can ask my mum and give it to you in my next vlog. Advent should be a time of contemplation and calmness.
