Chromite is a hidden resource in Palworld 1.0 that cannot be found through normal mining. To locate it, you need to catch a Smokie on Feybreak Island, craft its Pal Gear harness, and use its metal detector ability inside caves and dungeons.
In this step-by-step guide, I show you where to find Smokie, how to unlock and craft its harness, how the metal detector ping works, where to search for hidden Chromite deposits, and how to mine the ore once Smokie reveals it.
Start by traveling to Feybreak Island, the southernmost large island on the Palworld map. Find and capture a Smokie, then return to your base and craft its harness at a Pal Gear Workbench.
Once equipped, Smokie gains a metal detector ability that can reveal hidden Chromite deposits.
Next, enter a cave or dungeon on Feybreak Island. After clearing the enemies from each room, summon Smokie and activate its detection ability. Search the entire room before moving forward, because Chromite deposits are hidden beneath the ground and cannot be seen normally.
When Smokie successfully detects a Chromite node, you will hear a loud digging sound. The ore deposit will emerge near the center of the room with a bright blue beacon shining from the top.
Equip a pickaxe or another mining tool and break the deposit to collect the Chromite.
Continue clearing rooms and activating Smokie’s metal detector throughout the dungeon. Check every room until you reach and defeat the dungeon boss, then leave with all the Chromite you collected.
After returning to your base, Chromite can be processed into Hexolite Bricks. This requires an advanced furnace that becomes available after the Electric Furnace tier.
