Subnautica 2 EA Patch 1.1 is expected to include improvements to Blight Encounters, but the roadmap does not fully explain what those changes will be yet. So in this video, we are taking a closer look at how Blight currently works, what might change in Patch 1.1, and the most likely ways the developers could improve Blight Cankers, Blight Flowers, parasites, Angelcomb rescue objectives, wreck access, and resource areas.

The current Early Access roadmap lists Blight Encounters as one of the systems planned for improvement in EA 1.1, alongside Biomods, wreck gameplay, vehicle docking, PDA databank improvements, voice log priority, more passive Biomod slots, Storage Cache, and Sprint. The roadmap coverage confirms Blight Encounters are on the list for Patch 1.1, but the exact changes have not been fully detailed yet.

Right now, the most likely Blight changes seem like they could take one of two major forms.

The first possibility is a rebalance of the parasites spawned by Blight Flowers or Blight Cankers. Currently, it can be pretty easy to deal with them by firing off a blast from the Sonic Resonator. If the developers are tuning Blight encounters, they may adjust how dangerous those parasites feel. That could mean changing how fast they move, how aggressively they attack, how much damage they deal, how many appear at once, or how easily they can be cleared.

The second possibility is that Blight encounters may be expanded. Instead of only dealing with the existing Blight Cankers in current areas, Patch 1.1 could require players to destroy additional viral flowers or cankers before certain areas open. This could make Blight cleanup feel more like an actual environmental objective instead of a quick obstacle you clear once and forget about.

One example would be the Angelcomb encounters. The developers could expand those situations so players have to travel to more nearby locations, destroy more Blight Cankers, and rescue more Angelcomb before the area fully opens. That would make Blight feel more connected to the world and less like a single locked door with tentacles.

Another possibility is that the developers could add smaller random or semi-random pockets of Blight Cankers around the world. These could block important wreckage, hide blueprint fragments, grow near resource deposits, or appear in areas players need to mine. For example, you might find a wreck entrance blocked by one or two viral blooms, forcing you to clear the infection before you can get inside and scan the blueprint. Or you might find useful resources surrounded by Blight, making you deal with the infection before safely mining.

That would give the Blight system a much stronger gameplay purpose. Instead of only being tied to specific story moments, Blight could become a recurring environmental hazard that appears near loot, wrecks, caves, resources, and progression areas. It would also give the Sonic Resonator more reason to exist beyond only a few obvious use cases.

To be clear, these are predictions based on the current Early Access roadmap and how the Blight system already works. Patch 1.1 confirms Blight Encounter improvements are planned, but we do not know yet whether that means easier parasites, harder parasites, more cankers, better placement, new cleanup objectives, expanded Angelcomb encounters, or something completely different.

Either way, Blight changes could make Subnautica 2’s world feel more reactive and dangerous. If the developers improve how Blight behaves, where it appears, and how players clear it, then Patch 1.1 could make exploration, wreck diving, resource gathering, and cave navigation more interesting.
