In this Subnautica 2 guide, I’ll show you where to find all of the important items and points of interest inside the Hot Caves area.
The Hot Caves are one of the creepiest and most important story areas currently in Subnautica 2. This region contains multiple colonist black boxes, several blueprint data boxes, a Hot Caves base camp, hidden story logs, a wall glitch, and even an easter egg.
This is a full Hot Caves exploration guide, so I’ll be going through the major locations and showing what you should look for while you are down there.
The colonist black boxes you can recover in the Hot Caves include:
• Singh
• Qing “Twinkle” Xing
• K. “ANDER” Anand
• K. “WANDER” Wangmo
• Rasa “RASTER” Niauronyte
• Chen “Eddy” Wei
• Phoebe “GRAM” Grammaticas
• Marc “ROWBOAT” Rho
• Tziporah “ZIP” Malk
• S. “GANZO” Ganzorig
• Sean “SEAN” Harris
These black boxes are tied into the larger story of the missing colonists, Masefield Syndrome, and what happened to the people who went down into the Hot Caves and never came back out.
I’ll also show the blueprint data boxes hidden in the Hot Caves, including:
• Roof Antenna
• Moon Pool
• Roof Pump
• Interior Wall
These are useful base-building unlocks, so the Hot Caves are not just a story area. They are also worth exploring if you want more building pieces and progression items.
The Hot Caves also contain important journals and audio logs, including:
• Do Not Reprint
• ZIP: We Can Live Here
These logs help explain what the colonists were thinking, how desperate they were, and why this cave system became such an important place for the story.
On top of the black boxes and data boxes, I’ll also show the Hot Caves base camp, the wall glitch location, and a hidden easter egg. The wall glitch can be useful for exploration or weird map testing, but always save before messing around with glitches because Subnautica 2 can absolutely punish curiosity.
The Hot Caves are a dangerous and confusing area, but they are packed with lore, blueprints, clues, and creepy environmental storytelling. If you want to fully explore the Hot Caves and make sure you do not miss any important items, this guide will walk through the major things you need to find.
