Subnautica 2 has new leaked information about the upcoming Sea Frog Chassis for the Tadpole submarine, and this may finally explain how we are going to unlock it in a future update.
The Sea Frog Chassis appears to be the new and improved Prawn Suit-style upgrade for Subnautica 2. Instead of building a completely separate vehicle, it looks like this will be a new chassis for the Tadpole, turning it into a heavier deep-sea exploration machine that can stomp around dangerous terrain.
This lines up with official developer teasing around the next major region. Reporting on Unknown Worlds’ dev comments says the team teased a future Tadpole chassis that will let players “get stompy,” and that the next region is being described as the home of the Collector Leviathan and “the scariest the game has been yet.”
For now, since we do not have the official biome name, I’m calling this area the Sparse Biome. It appears to be a deep, dark, foggy, sparsely populated region with very few plants and animals compared to the safer starting biomes. It is also tied to the Collector Leviathan, which makes it one of the most dangerous places players will eventually need to explore.
Based on the leaked unlock info, getting the Sea Frog Chassis will require players to venture down into this new deep biome and scan Sea Frog Chassis fragments. That means this probably will not be a simple recipe unlock or early-game blueprint. You will need to head into the dark, search the terrain, avoid new hostile creatures, survive the poor visibility, and scan enough fragments to unlock the new Tadpole chassis.
That is a huge deal for progression. If the Sea Frog Chassis is Subnautica 2’s version of the Prawn Suit, it probably means future content will require heavier movement, deeper exploration, better protection, or the ability to interact with terrain and resources in a way the normal Tadpole cannot. It may be required for the Collector Leviathan’s home region, future mining areas, deeper caves, or late-game story zones.
The other major part of this update is the Collector Leviathan itself. The developers have already talked about making the Collector feel more reactive and intelligent, with behavior that responds to what the player does. PC Gamer’s coverage of the Collector dev diary described it as a dangerous leviathan with reactive behavior, mood cues, and tentacle attacks designed to grab, crush, swat, and terrify players.
The new info suggests the Collector Leviathan may get even smarter, changing its behavior depending on how players treat encounters. If you tend to sneak around and avoid it, the Collector may start hiding in ambush. If you are more direct, noisy, or aggressive, it may chase you down and attack immediately. That could make the creature feel less like a scripted patrol and more like something that learns how you play.
So unlocking the Sea Frog Chassis may not just be about finding fragments. It may be about entering the Collector Leviathan’s territory, dealing with a smarter predator, navigating a deep foggy biome, and earning the upgrade that lets you survive even worse areas later.
Important disclaimer: this is leaked and upcoming content, so final names, unlock steps, fragment locations, creature behavior, biome layout, recipes, and release timing can all change before Unknown Worlds officially adds it.
