...It rained during the night unexpectedly & most of my friction fire sets got wet so I thought I'd revisit the horizontal bow drill.

...I used the same dead fig tree I used before for the hearth but you could lash a regular hearth round a tree or post & use a knife blade to catch the dust.
.
...Not the easiest method, took about four attempts here, but once I switched spindles to a Malayan cherry I got a coal without too much trouble.
