...I haven't been putting much time into the fire roll for a while. I was trying new materials every week at one point & started a #firerollfriday but for some reason there was never a great deal of interest in it for some reason.

...Anyway I came across this sprawling vine on the roadside with intensely fragrant flowers. The vines were super strong and I suspect they would make great cordage but I thought I'd take some home & process some for the fire roll.

...On my return home I checked on a plant ID app on my phone & identified the plant as kudzu also called Japanese arrow root (Pueraria montana). I'm sure my followers in the States will recognise it as it became a highly invasive plant their. The leaves, shoots, flowers & roots are all edible & I'll explore these possibilities later but today I was only interested in the outer bark.

...It was relatively easy to process short sections & it didn't take too long to get a small pile large enough to try fire rolling. I roughed the fibres up & added a sprinkle of wood ashes to help with ignition though I suspect this stuff would roll successfully without any additives.

...As you see I managed to ignite it on the first roll & it produced a strong ember. If you've never tried this before check out my YouTube channel for some ideas on what different materials work for this technique & there's a tutorial too (link in bio or search wur thaz smoke). I would recommend pure cotton wool & wood ashes as a starting point & once you get this down you could start experimenting with other materials. So far I've managed to get over 50 different materials to work for this & there must be hundreds, even thousands, of other possibilities for this.
