On April 19, 2024, An officer from the DeForest Police Department responded to the report of a two vehicle crash in the parking lot of Walgreens. When the officer arrived, the caller stated that she was inside her vehicle when a male driver crashed into her before parking and going into the store. The female then stated that the man came back outside and left without saying anything. She said she was uninjured and provided a license plate number. A check of the license plate revealed that the vehicle was registered to a man named Robert. The officer attempted to make contact with Robert at his residence but a female answered the door and stated that he had just left to pick something up from Walgreens. The officer asked the female to tell Robert to call the Police Department when he returned home. As the officer was about to leave, a vehicle matching the description of the hit and run vehicle pulled up and the officer made contact with the driver who was identified as Robert. He said that he went to Walgreens but did not hit anyones car. Robert then exited his vehicle to see if there was any damage and wiped off a small mark on his front bumper. While speaking with Robert, the officer could smell alcohol on his breath and Robert agreed to do field sobriety tests. After the field sobriety tests, Robert submitted to a PBT which showed he had an estimated BAC of .271. He was then transported to the DeForest Police Department to get a more accurate BAC reading. The breath sample at the Police Department showed that Robert had an actual BAC of .279. He was then informed that he would be charged for Operating While Intoxicated and Hit and Run before being offered a ride back home. A warrant was issued after Robert failed to appear in court, however he later pleaded not guilty and all of his charges were dismissed.
