On July 21, 2024. A suspected impaired driver fled from the Fennimore Police Department after being involved in a crash. A deputy from the Grant County Sheriff's Department was en route to the location when he observed a vehicle matching the description traveling 108 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone. The deputy activated his emergency lights and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed before turning off into a side street. As the deputy turned the corner, he saw the suspect vehicle coming to a stop and the lights turning off. The deputy shined his spotlight on the vehicle and gave commands for the driver (Ali) to exit the vehicle. He was searched and secured in handcuffs. Ali appeared to be very emotional and it was hard to understand what he was saying. He said multiple times that he was not trying to flee from law enforcement and did not have anything to drink. Ali stated that he did not want his vehicle searched and was informed that he was being placed under arrest for fleeing. He was placed into the rear of a squad car and began screaming in fear when the canine began barking. Ali was then removed from the squad car and asked to complete field sobriety tests. He was still speaking gibberish and appeared to be stalling having to do the tests. Ali began crying, adjusting his pants, adjusting his belt, and asked if he could remove his pants to complete the tests. After failing most of the tests, Ali agreed to a PBT which showed he had a BAC of 0.00. Ali was transported to the hospital for a blood draw before being booked into the county jail. He was found guilty for Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer, Failure to Install Ignition Interlock Device, and Operating with a Restricted Controlled Substance (3rd). Ali was sentenced to 124 days in jail, 2 years of probation, his license got revoked for 2 years, and he was ordered to pay $2500 in fines.
