Mt Silverheels, elevation 13,829’, is a Centennial 13er (highest 100 peaks) in the Front Range of Colorado located between the town of Breckenridge and Alma. It is named after a famous entertainer who worked in nearby saloons in the 1800s. I first tried to climb this peak in March of last year, and had to turn around midway up the mountain due to high wind and deep snow drift. This time around I had a more favorable weather window, and was able to summit after an early morning start. I enjoyed the views of the surrounding mountains along the way and met only one other solo hiker the whole day. Total stats from Hoosier Pass: 9.2 miles with 3200’ elevation gain
