Dragon’s Tail Couloir is a classic snow climb in RMNP. It rises over 1,700ft above Emerald Lake in 0.7mile, approaching or exceeding 50° slope near the top. On this occasion me and a couple of friends started the climb from the base of the couloir around 5:30am, and reached the top of the couloir around 8am. We took the right fork at the Y-split which is a bit more steep but free of rock/mixed climbing. After topping off next to a huge cornice we made our way down via Flattop Mountain trail. It was an exhilarating experience with breathtaking views all around. Total stats: 5.6 miles and 2400ft elevation gain
