The final stop of our weeklong van tour of Wyoming is Green River Lakes area of Wind River Range in western Wyoming. It’s my first time in the Winds and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The 19 mile dirt road to get to the lakes has a lot of small rocks and washboard sections but it’s passable to any vehicle with 6-7” clearance as long as one takes it slow. There are a lot of great disperse camping spots along the road but we elected to stay at the campground by the lake, so we could enjoy sunrise/sunset at the lake as well as walk to the trails. We attempted to do a combination of Clear Creek Trail and Green River Lakes loop trail, but the upper meadow section of the loop was under knee deep water at the time so we decided to go back on the same side of lower lake. It was a great introduction to the Winds and I’ll definitely be back for more in the future, maybe attempt Gannett Peak as well. Total stats: 12 miles with 1000’ gain
