The Subway in Zion National Park is one of those bucket list hikes that I have been wanting to do for a while. One has to get a permit via a lottery system in order to do this hike, which is easier to obtain during winter months. This is not an easy hike, with majority of the 9 miles spent criss-crossing or walking in the creek with no well-defined trail leading up to the Subway slot canyon. The last 1/4 mile in the Subway would require walking in the water, which can be quiet cold in winter months, but the neoprene socks we rented from a local shop really helped to keep the feet warm. The views in the Subway are other-worldly, and one really has to be there to appreciate the scale and beauty of this unique place. It's our favorite hike of this entire UT-AZ trip. Total stats: 9 miles with about 1500ft elevation gain. AllTrails recorded over 2300ft gain but it’s likely due to GPS signal bouncing off the canyon walls
