Just a quick ballpark figure of how much downward pressure is used to successfully make an ember. Dog Fennel spindle (3/8" dia) on a Palm tree fruit branch fireboard.

The scale is measuring in grams. Looks like I'm ranging between 2 to 3kg (4.4 to 6.6lbs) of downward pressure in about 40 seconds.
