Yesterday, I drove by an old broken giant-screen TV set out for the garbage men to pick up. I took it home and scavenged the 30" x 40" screen (large Fresnel lens) from it. It cost me nothing. FREE! These lenses go for $80 and up. This was an awesome find.
Of course, I had to test it out. This is a quick demo just setting a piece of palm tree fiber on fire. Worked pretty well even with clouds getting in the way.
Living in sunny FL in a hurricane zone, this lens can be used to boil water, distill water, cook food, start fires, etc... as a means for urban survival.
