Bastiaan Olij | Godot Smoke and mirrors part 3 - Rendering loads of objects @BastiaanOlij | Uploaded January 2020 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
In this episode of smoke and mirrors we're going to look at using Godots MultiMesh node to render hundreds of thousands of objects at high frame rates.
*note* The green asteroids are around 30k Polygons. The blue ones are around 2k-3k, the purple ones are around 100 polygons and the ones used for the rest of the video.
We'll look at the good and bad of this tool. It is also a good showcase where you as a developer need to make the right choices, a game engine can only provide you the tools.
This is only the first step in efficiently rendering large amounts of objects so there will be follow ups to this video if the feedback on this is good.
In running this project i'm using my older laptop which has a NVidia 1060 GTX build in, the recording software is running on the laptop as well which does have an effect on the performance.
