Welcome back to the game room! Today, I’m taking you on a tour of the deep cuts—the unique, the bizarre, and the legendary items that make this hobby so much fun. I get asked all the time about the oddities on my shelves, and honestly, none of this would be possible without the support of my wife, Ginger, who puts up with my endless collecting!
We are diving into some of my favorite "conversation starters," from rare JVC hardware to the weirdest NES controller you’ve ever seen. Let’s get into it!
🎮 THE CONTROLLER VAULT
The Super Famicom Aesthetic
I’ve got the Super Famicom controller right here. I’ve always loved the iconic four-color button layout—it’s just classic. My only gripe? I still wish it had that concave/convex button shape from the US SNES controller. It’s a small detail, but you know how we retro gamers are about "feel!"
JVC X’Eye (The Legend)
Yes, I’ve got the JVC X’Eye controllers! If you’re a fan of this Sega/JVC hybrid system, you know how rare these are getting. Sorry, Kris over at @KrisCarlsonYT—you need to step up your game on this one! 😉
Master System vs. NES
Controversial opinion time: In many ways, I actually prefer the Sega Master System controller over the NES brick. The D-pad just feels right. Speaking of the NES, I also have the Retro Fighters Jab Pad. This thing is wild—it’s an NES controller with dual analog sticks and L/R triggers. Obviously, the NES didn't use those, but man, is it a comfortable way to play the classics.
The "Time Capsule" N64
I have a stock Nintendo 64 that is so pristine it still has the original factory twist ties on the cables. It’s hard not to just leave it in the box forever, but seeing that original packaging takes me right back to 1996.
🌀 THE WEIRD & THE WONDERFUL
Virtual Boy on Switch?
You saw that right. I’ve found a way to bridge the gap and play Virtual Boy on the Nintendo Switch. It’s the red-tinted future we were promised decades ago, finally made portable and playable!
Launch Day Wii History
I’m still rocking my "NES-style" Wii Classic Controller that I picked up on launch day back in 2006. It’s been a staple in my setup for Virtual Console gaming for nearly 20 years.
Android-Powered RC Racing
Coming from my background in the RC industry, I had to show this off: an RC transmitter that actually runs on Android. "Drivers ready... Corner Marshals ready... 🏁" This thing is a beast for modern racing.
The Forbidden Snack
The absolute weirdest thing in the room? I have an actual cookie from Eon Gaming that I received during the launch of the XBHD (the original Xbox HD adapter). It’s a few years old now, and I am definitely afraid to eat it, but it’s a permanent piece of my Xbox history shelf!
