Hi
In this video I will compare the Galaxy watch 3 silver 45 millimeter against the new galaxy watch 4 classic 46 millimeter in black.
the case size is different but the screen size still 1.4 inches. the resolution finally is much higher in the new watch 4, i did noticed, but the old one was ok too, this reason alone is not a reason to upgrade.
the band is now different. the old one used to be a 22 millimeter lug to lug but the new one is only 20 millimeter. it is a bit narrower and that is despite the fact the the case is bigger. I honestly after wearing the new one for a week, I can definitely say that the new watch style is better over all, the band this time has a stop that hits the case at a certain point so it wears much more comfortably in your wrist than the watch 3. honestly I could never sleep with the watch 3 on because I would wake up with the wrist hurting. with the watch 4, I have forgotten to remove it at night and I have had no problem. i really welcome this change. good job samsung. there is a little gap between the case and the band, i don't know if samsung overlooked that or what happened. maybe working from home cause a confusion between the band team and the case team, who knows.
the watch 4 is thinner than the old one, I don't like thin watches but this one is ok, it wears a bit bigger due to the changes in the band that i mentioned before. the lugs on the case are very narrow too, i thought i wouldn't like that but I don't notice them, maybe because the watch is black and the band too.
the software is a big difference between the watches. honestly i don't know why samsung went to wear os. because the tizen os was pretty well developed and mature in watch 3, battery life was great. I used to wear my watch 3 in airplane mode and battery lasted for 4 to even 5 days. with the new watch, using airplane mode too. i can barely do 2 and a half days.
i think tizen o s had more and better watch faces than what i have been able to find in wear o s. the watch faces that samsung include in the watch 4 are pretty bad in my opinion. many do not include the date. when signing a check you need to open the calendar to find the date.
also the watch is super buggy, i never had any issues with any of my other smart watches and this watch 4, refused for 2 hours to pair and set up with my galaxy s21. i was about to return it to bestbuy but then suddenly it paired to my phone.
in my opinion, what samsung won by going wear o s was minimal compared to what they lost by leaving tizen o s. specially the battery life.
the watch 4 charges significantly faster than the old one, so that is good, because I would stop using the old watch 3 and taking another watch because the watch 3 was super slow to charge. the same charger for the watch 3 works on the watch 4.
anyway I'm keeping this watch and trading in the old one for a big discount. also i don't need the old one because i have the Huawei watch that looks almost identical to the watch 3, almost identical but better because it has a ceramic bezel. by the way the Huawei beats by a mile both watches in the battery life department. the Huawei lasts over 2 weeks on a single charge. software is limited but very well though.
even with all my complains if i wouldn't have any samsung watch i would get the watch 4 just because the style is better.
also i forgot to mention that the bezel in the new watch is, or at least, it looks like it is made out of metal and the old watch 3 looks like it is made out of plastic. i like the brushed metal on the new one because it reflects the light better.
I really recommend the new watch 4 if you can get over the fact that you will have to charge it more often and that the watch faces are not there yet and that you'll experience a bug here and there.
I'll leave you now with some extra footage of the hardware and on the wrist shots.
thanks for watching.
