Designing and building the RS-485 transceivers, writing some test code …

Last time we did some housekeeping in regards to our hardware and software, during which we discovered a fatal design flaw (link below). But before we tackle that problem (I have to think about it), let’s implement the RS-485 communication.

We start with a recap of our communication structure. Then we make a number of decisions regarding our bus design. After choosing a suitable transceiver chip, we build the circuitry, set up a dummy master, and write some code to test everything.
