Well, adapters between DVI and DisplayPort are a dime a dozen. Makes you wonder if there’s anything inside these things. Fortunately I have a broken DisplayPort to DVI adapter at hand. So we can have a peek inside.

After a first look we tear the thing apart, which is frighteningly easy. The innards reveal one relatively large chip doing the heavy lifting, that is level shifting, a switch mode boost converter, a lone transistor and a lot of passives.
