Suwannee Fire rescue was called about a black Nissan car bearing Florida tag that was swerving in and out of it's lane. Suwannee Fire Rescue advised the vehicle was also abruptly speeding up and slowing down. I initiated a traffic stop utilizing my emergency lights, but the vehicle did not immediately stop.
The vehicle stopped approximately 15 seconds after I activated my sirens. Upon approaching the vehicle I observed a white female. I explained the reason for the stop and she said she was messing with her phone GPS. I smelled the odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from the vehicle and I noticed that she was slurring her words heavily. I asked her if she had been drinking and she replied that she had consumed 3 beers. I asked her to step out of her vehicle to perform field sobriety exercises and she consented.
Her 14 year old son was in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
The exercises were performed on a flat segment of asphalt on the side of US Highway 27. I utilized my vehicle headlights for illumination. Deputy Stofel monitored traffic while these exercises were performed for safety reasons. The woman got very angry and started yelling at me. She said she was angry that someone had called in about her and was mad that I did not pull over the car that was in front of her for speeding. After reading Miranda Rights, I asked her what all she had been drinking. She said Corona Premier beer, but during the course of our conversations talked about margaritas, bloody marys and Bacardi. She said that she had just gotten her CDL to drive school buses and was celebrating this at the Keg room before driving to pick her child up and then drive him home.
