Multiple units were dispatched to the area of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, I observed a blue Hyundai Santa Fe facing East on Broadway that was partially on the sidewalk. The Hyundia had significant damage to the driver side tire. Another officer was standing by with the other vehicle and driver who was involved in the accident.
I made contact with one of the drivers who was travelling East on Broadway when a Black Nissan Altima began to tailgate her. She advised that she attempted to turn left, then the Nissan attempted to pass her on the other side and struck the driver side of the vehicle. While speaking to her, I immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath. I observed her eyes to be bloodshot and watery. This driver advised that prior to accident, she was at the Mix Lounge and Bar where she consumed 2 alcoholic drinks containing Hennessy and cranberry juice.
Due to my observations and the driver admitting to drinking alcoholic beverages prior to the accident, I advised that I would be conducting a series of field sobriety tests. She was very cooperative and agreed to take the test.
At the conclusion of 3 tests, I placed her under arrest for driving under the influence without incident. She was handcuffed behind her back without incident and searched to which yielded negative results for illegal contraband or weapons.
She was then secured in the rear of unit 17 and transported to Seabright Police Department. Once at Seabright Police Department, she provided two breath samples which resulted in a blood alcohol level of .08
The male driver in the other vehicle was found to have a BAC of .145.
