Today July's poll is up and ready to go with 5 new samples!

The first is an epic villain theme called "The Demon Lord." We start with heavy, distorted drums and bass strings to set the mood. The organ comes next to give us a final battle, Armageddon type feeling. Then the choirs add the final, over-the-top sauce that makes us realize how powerful this foe really is.

Next up is "The Spirit of the Forest." This is an ethereal, magical track with a somber / dark touch that makes me think this place has many ancient secrets yet to be discovered. It's tucked away in its own little part of the world. The harp and fading strings immediately set the mood, and possibly give us a wintry kind of feeling. The synth bass adds a lot to the darker tone and the airy woodwinds are perfect for that magical atmosphere.

Up next is our True Crime track for the month, "Where the Monster was Born." I imaged this was the part of the story where our detectives found our killer's childhood home and discover his dark upbringing. This is where our possibly once innocent criminal spent his formative years, probably in a lot of isolation. This is where his mind ventured to its murkiest depths and the "monster" that exists today was incubated. We have driving, high-pitched percussion, droning strings and some meandering piano that provides a mixture of feelings. It provides some sickening horror, but almost adds a tender touch, as if we feel sorry for our criminal after seeing where he grew up.

Next is our Comedy track, "Real Funny, Dood..." This piece has a playful, prank-ness about it. It felt like lighthearted humor, but at someone else's expense. There's a grumpy, old badger here to me that makes me think there's someone here not quite "in" on the joke. And when I saw the picture of that cat having a terrible, rotten, no-good, horrible day, I thought that summed it up perfectly. We have a couple different synths with some playful pluckiness to them, pizzicato strings, light percussion and some horns to cap it off.

And lastly, we have our Horror sample, "Under the Asylum." This is a mixture of sound design stuffs with short, melodic ideas. I imagined being trapped in an abandoned, and possibly haunted, place. Several sound effects used here could be ghostly screams. And the deep strings provide us with a sort of droning helplessness. The deep booms that serve as percussion here and there, made me think we were in a professional or industrial kind of setting, at least at one point in time. Which is why I chose the hospital / asylum angle, rather than a more personal setting, such as a haunted house.
